A poem – which I dedicate to my late Blind Uncle who had an extremely quick thinking mind.
Oh to know that I can’t see Life in ways that would upset me I have to accept that in one way It is a blessing this is how I stay
I don’t have to see things that are bad Nor having to see those who are so sad I am spared the fact I witness not Nasty expressions some people have got
I don’t see bad sites or hideous clothes Nor risk the sight of stolen goods sold Not being able to be blamed for seeing Things that are done by another being
Spared the sight of cruelty to others Damage to property, animals and flowers Just to think and with imagination Beauty can be seen in every dimention
I have to use the ability of speech This indeed to some people better reach Things that I see that are in my mind Words to describe such I am able to find
Sight people have is often taken for granted If this is lost some would end up dimented This God given gift should be more appreciated Without it such loss can’t be calculated
So the message given here comes loud and clear If you wish to remove a blindness fear You should always take care and look after your sight Doing everything to preserve it that is sensible and right
