Even when I’m incarcerated, I am set free. She elevates my words through physical performance.
She is the confession
that my truth can’t handle
in my mind I use metaphors
and alliterative illustrations
to describe what she means to me
but my reality is
she’s the alibi that sets me free
Wherever she is
that’s where I’m going
Whatever she does well
will be the confessions
of my testimony
Whatever she’s accused of doing
I plead the fifth
and hold myself in contempt
We make legalese
sound like simple lullabies
with lyrical anecdotes
My girl, she’s the only reason
I need to keep breathing
Making it as plain as possible,
if I were on trial
faced with the possibility
of life without parole
The only deal the prosecution would need
is unlimited conjugal visits with you
My poetry has a way of climaxing
from just a few moments alone with you.
