These poems are poems that were written from my experience throughout life and have acted as pebbles gently placed together to lead me down life’s path. I share them in hopes that someone will read and say that I’ve been here before or done that before. I glimpse on sweet and sour moments in your past and for those who haven’t experienced it then maybe my poems will show you why you shouldn’t.

I set my truths on a mantle for display

You peered but never studied and you swept me away

Now upon further review there’s a flag on the play

Confused because it was ok until today

I offered you my heart

But somehow it paused a game we weren’t certain we even wanted to start

The connection exists but it’s a battle between the heart

And the mind

We’re surrounded by treasures hidden among a sea of mines

We tread slowly but steady knowing danger exist

But we reminisce

And it keeps the stride going and strong

While we embark on a journey that we know maybe long

Shielded with armors raised

Emotionally guarded so nothing may amaze

Carrying bruises, cuts and scars from prior wars waged

Believing we can continue to move forward and forget the last page

Masks pulled and applied

Still attempting to avoid the pot holes of life called lies

Now we leave it up to time

With every second, minute, hour and day

That tick away

We try to deafen fears and calm doubts

We are more mindful of what exits our mouths

Troubles and tears drift away freely

We understand what we surrender may be dearly

Is it evenly possible at this point to avoid tears

I don’t know but hopefully from my heart to God’s ear
