A poem I wrote for a competition..never won though lol.

Politics

Often deemed a company of corruption,

They are a nexus of deceit and the harbingers of destruction,

However, it would be unjust to brand our elite politicians as such without allowing them

To elucidate themselves.

After all, wouldn’t you, due to your lack of frugality,

Borrow money to satisfy your somewhat selfish desires?

Thus, deep in debt, peculating money is the day’s order,

And the hungry suffer due to gas-guzzling machines and overpriced, soft, leather

Office chairs.

“Lack of trust!” is what the people cry!

This is hard to dispute,

Since the simple task of distributing Cuban light bulbs caused such a kerfuffle in

Parliament.

The public peruses promises made by seemingly prudent politicians,

Most of which have been waiting ages to be fulfilled,

Perhaps they should refrain from the practice,

For it is always beyond their power to perform.

Speaking of power, the don is the real politician,

For he places the party in power,

And blandishments, and money, complete with security is his reward.

These, compiled with other observations of incompetence

Only cement the opinions of the people regarding politics.

Politicians must act apace in order to regain face in society.
