This is about how the world is, and what is could be.

Prayer of the Iguana
A picture book full of colors
Belongs not on a page.
A headline full of grief
Belongs not in a sensationalized edit.
A beauteous bloom of sweet scents
Belongs not in the confinement of a flower pot.
A heart of gold
Belongs not in a trinket box.
They say green is the color of envy,
And white is the color of purity.
But the prayer of the iguana is simply this:
To live in a colorblind world is his bliss.
A child’s cry
Belongs not in a closet.
A dog’s bone
Belongs not buried.
A talent
Should be enjoyed by all.
A baby’s laughter
Should not go unnoticed.
They say black is the color of mourning,
And red is the color of evil.
But the prayer of the iguana we see.
In a colorblind world we learn to live.
Hands
Never be idle.
Ideas
Never be undiscovered.
Adventures
Never be put off to the future.
Catastrophe
Never consume the world.
They say purple is the color of regality,
And pink is the color of frailty.
But the prayer of the iguana is only
To be in that colorblind world in all its glory.
A dime
Belongs not in a pocket.
A tear
Belongs not in a glass.
A lie
Belongs not on our lips.
A wrinkle
Belongs not on a face.
To trace our steps back to reality,
We see only this.
Colors are meaningless.
Feelings only exist.
Take a lesson from the iguana,
Swamp creature of little worth.
Wise beyond our understanding.
The reason why his prayers go unheard.
The prayer of the iguana:
I hear not the words.
Only feel the tears
Of his simplistic trials.

A beautiful poem that’s so expressive. I like the lines “To live in a colorblind world is his bliss.” and “A child’s cry belongs not in a closet.”

    Take Care,
