Pretty Paper doll a poem by Jennifer Jo Fay. A poem about playing with paper dolls. A nostalgic poem about a favorite childhood past time.
Pretty Paperdoll
The pretty paper doll rests upon
the cherry nightstand. She is untouched
and awaiting some little fingers. She has
her pretty costumes and her sweet desires
are played out on the page. The Housewife
is a vision from a novel called Lustful Evangelean.
Her author created her in a story that took
two years in the making. The housewife evolved
from her haunted character and developed into
a sweet paper doll. She is clad in her bikini and
waits for her turn to play.
Suddenly a young girl with brown hair and ponytails,
picks up her pristine and lovingly done page. She
grabs the little orange scissors and starts to cut her out.
The little girl is excited to pretend and
to create a world that is endless in her mind.
Little Lucy, finishes cutting her out and cuts out her
costume. She smiles to herself and decides to call
her doll Scarlett. Lucy is happy to spend a quiet hour
to play out her childhood dreams.
Pretty paper dolly breathes life into the thin paper
that once was nothing but a blank page.
