It takes a great deal of courage to stand up for what one believes in. Melissa Etheridge said it best, “Love is never wrong.” This poem honors those who stand for love, and human rights.

They knew no one would say it.
No one would stop things.
They couldn’t care if
it was happening there.
And no one did.
Not one stood in defense.
They sat, looking at the
others, sitting,
doing nothing.
Until the day,
that day, the two held hands.
They stood.
They stood for freedom,
for rights,
for determination,
for love.
They stood,
Together,
hand in hand,
with every bit of courage
it took to stand.
In that place of wandering
eyes and judging fingers,
they stood.
Encouraging others
with their braveness.
And one staunched in
the back row
hollered from behind
his Book,
“Sit down! You’re
blocking MY view.”
