A poem to remind you all never to judge somebody! Sometimes we can be different!
Proud to be a teenage Mum!
Have you ever been judged or glared at?
Have you ever heard whispers behind your back?
Have you ever been the talk of the town?
The only expression people give you is a frown.
Who do they think they are labelling you?
How would they like it if i labelled them to?
Just because i was 16 and to be a mother,
It didn’t mean that i didn’t have a lover.
They’d whisper ‘oh look at that tart’,
did they realise they were breaking my heart?
People thought the reason i did it,
was to get a free house and every benefit.
Never get a job and not pay any tax,
Live my scummy life to the max.
Well i hope they feel guilty because i proved them wrong,
the time i had off work was not very long.
I got myself a job and i payed my tax,
my benefits were minimum and not max.
I didn’t get a house either and it wasn’t bad,
I chose to be happier living with my Dad.
And just because i was a 16 year old mother,
It didn’t mean i was single and i didn’t have a lover.
We’ve been together now for 6 years,
Hes been there for me when i’ve been bought to tears,
and we’re also getting married soon,
but we can’t even afford a honeymoon.
Because 6 years on we’ve had a baby boy,
now both of our kids are our pride and joy.
But we do have a house now and we won’t moan,
that we do have to pay rent on our own home.
Because we worked hard to get where we are,
2 jobs, 2 kids and 2 crappy cars.
So to all of you people who were judging us,
i won’t make a scene and i wont make a fuss.
I just want to remind you when you see a teenage mother,
remember not to judge a book by its cover.
