Puddle Jumper

I’m a lover, an impulsive mover,

A do-er, not a sit-still-and-thinker.

You are so timid you’d think twice

about stepping into a puddle-

How deep is it? Will my shoes get wet? Or muddy?

Puddles are deceiving-

you never know how deep they are.

One misstep and your sneakers’ sole,

sock and toes could be ruined.

I splash through my life,

not taking much notice to the small puddles

What’s a wet toe when you’re happy

when you’ve arrived?

And the big puddles, well,

you can’t stop them, so

I do my best to tip toe through

the ones I can’t just step over.

But even a soaked sock and

wrinkled toes are worth the things

to be found on the other side.
