Ever dealt with someone who just can’t take a hint? Well, this poem is about a guy who gives new meaning to the phrase, "How can I miss you if you won’t GO AWAY??"

What is it with you?
I’ve tried to explain that
I don’t have time to play
Games with you anymore
I have things to do – goals to reach
And you – you are a thorn in my flesh
Your emails, text messages, calls
A constant, endless stream of interruptions
To my creativity, my life flow
You are persistent, relentless, determined
Knowing full well that if I slow down
Long enough for you to catch me
You’ll turn tale and run
You’ve proved that on more
Than one occasion
But the more I ignore you
The harder you run after me
Rather like a spoiled child
Calling his mother over and over
When she’s already told him
“Mommy’s busy. I can’t play right now.”
I simply do not have the time
I’m focused on other things
Important things, life altering things
No time for a man-child looking
For someone to validate him
To hold his hand through the
Latest mid-life crisis
Give him just enough confidence
To sprint away and chase after
Some hot, young thing
Coming back limping and wounded
From trying to run a race
You couldn’t possibly win at your age
I used to let you catch me, but now
I’m moving in a realm you don’t understand
Going in a direction where you can’t follow
I won’t put my life on Pause
To stroke your fragile ego
Nor will I risk what I have gained
In an attempt to make time
To be pursued by you
