Original Poetry 2002
This one of my earliest documented works that I recently discovered crammed in the back of an old notebook…
WHY CAN’T YOU SHIFT QUICKER
to prove that you can do it?
WHY CAN’T YOU WIN
to show you can reach your dreams
AND WHY CAN’T YOU LAUGH
at your imperfections?
As I sit in my car,
In the driver’s seat.
The stoplight challenging me,
Nobody thinks I can do it.
Including myself…
But, it’s my passion,
So, I RACE.
SO WHY CAN’T YOU BELIEVE
since no one else will?
AND WHY ARE YOU ALONE
on this dark, dark street?
WHY DO YOU WAIT
for the challenge that you fear?
WHY DON’T YOU JUST GO
afraid of losing if you try?
The air is thick and humid.
I choke. The quiet town is at peace.
But still I wait…
I dare for a challenge and hope for a victory,
But I’m alone in the heat.
There’s nobody for me to try to beat.
Except my shadow, myself, revealed…
So, I RACE
