Please enjoy this poem I wrote for Random Acts of Christmas, on reddit.com.
Twas a month before Christmas, and all through the statesSome parents were worried, they tried to make haste. The bills were too much, and their rent was soon dueNo gifts had been bought, this Christmas was blue.
The children didn’t know, as they rushed off to schoolMom and Dad felt defeated, this would be a sad yule.Little did they know, of a place in the makingWhere it was all about giving and not about taking.
A redditor here and a redditor there,Many were more than happy to share.Presents for children, and cheer just alikeDollies , toy cars, and even a bike!
The word spread fast, faster than Santa’s magic sleighAs the redditors worked quickly to send gifts on their way. Some asked for clothing and others for a gameBut each gift was granted, all in the same.
The elves in this place aren’t tiny at allThey’re of average height, some–even tall. They don’t work in a workshop, the whole year throughThey do lots of things, very much like you.
In place of a wishlist is a computer screenWith that blasted old Grinch, who tries to be mean. There’s no sort of list, for the naughty or niceJust a lot of requests that Redditors check twice.
Come Christmas morning, there will be such a clatterAs children rush down to see what’s the matter.Though some may have thought no gifts would arrive,There might be three, or four, or five.
They will smile so big, their eyes will smile, tooMom and Dad will take pictures for me and for you.Their hearts will be happy, as they open those giftsGames they can play, dolls they can love to bits.
Give yourself some credit, that Christmas morning will be brightWhether Christmas is sunny or Christmas is white.Santa would be proud of all the gifts that you gaveFor more than one family, this Christmas you’ve saved.
