A short poem about my little guilty pleasure…;)
Raspberry Rum
Mary Angela Guillen
Here I am sipppin’ it,
Ever so slowly having it null my senses.
Doctors and loved ones don’t look highly on it,
But my baseball game wouldn’t be the same without distorted lenses.
Candy is dandy as liquor is quicker,
Why does it have to kill my liver?
Addiction isn’t on my mind right now…
Could give up but don’t know how.
I love the little shot glass next to me,
Right now it is my friend.
Same as a flower to a bumble bee,
Sipping its nectar to the end.
I don’t drink often,
But when I do I drink heavy.
I don’t think it will soften,
Me considering a bottle of rum my baby.
Hot and warm does it slip down my throat,
Numbing my brain till it feels like it’s afloat.
I’m much more relaxed as it takes over my system,
No wonder it’s so prone to addiction.
I’ll take a little more…
It won’t hurt.
One thing I know for sure,
Tomorrow it will hurt.
