In Costa Rica, ravaging army ants swarm in hundreds all over the forest floor entrapping their prey and bringing their prize back to their nest.

The army ants ravage

The forest floor

For miles in Costa Rica

With one queen

And numerous daughters

And sisters

They produce hundreds

Of thousands of larvae

- – -

These creatures

Communicate through

Touch and chemicals

Taking their food

Directly to their nest

In this communal ritual

- – -

Each day more than

One third of the nest

Flows out into the forest

As a large deluge

Of swarming ants

To encounter their prey

- – -

Wasps are no match for them

For they are able

To completely penetrate

Their cocoons

And destroy them

Carrying their prize

Back to their nest

Ants are just very intriguing creatures, but I like their attitude of storing goods for the winter.
