A poem about doing your best in the context of the mind, soul and body.
A wise man once told me his ingredients for success,
Which was living certain standards and accepting nothing less,
Uttering, ‘to be your best, think mind, soul and body,
Keeping them away from the shoddy,
Purify your thoughts and be like a child,
Fight against the beasts of the wild.’
‘Be curious and in awe of what the world displays,
Enjoy the ride, the journey the months and the days,
Seek the beauty in the arts,
Exploring all of its parts,
Consider the sciences and the knowledge to be gained,
And making sure your reputation’s not stained,
Yet embrace humility, benevolence and charity,
Be aware of the evils and its calamity,
But be strong of character, substance and conviction,
And avoid the acts of complete contradiction.’
‘Embrace the idea of the universe and its enigmatic disposition,
And always try to make the most appropriate decision,
Remember the infinite stars, the planets and the moons,
And though at times we may appear like buffoons,
Consider the way it all operates in a system of laws,
For it enables us to learn and refine our own flaws,
And there are things beyond our comprehension,
Beyond all that worlds could possibly mention,
The workings of the ocean, the sky and the land,
There are many things to seek to understand,
Believe in love and hope for things, have faith in things,
For joy it brings. ‘
‘Live life to the full by eating in moderation,
And find the one to conquer your adoration,
Enjoying the physical body and treating it right,
Minimise the junk and consider the light,
Exercising, training and becoming much fitter,
Evading the darkness, the filth and the litter,
Find a well balanced regime of exercise and diet,
Be calm, cool and avoid creating a riot,
Enjoy the health of sleep and the health of living,
Find the joy that comes from giving,
Meditate, contemplate, think and create,
Never believe that it is too late,
Be tolerant, open and make the world a better place,
Think honour, integrity and grace.’
‘For the mind is more powerful than you know,
The soul more capable than the credit it receives,
And the body is able of achieving incredible feats.’
