Poem about everyday struggles.

U gave me the chance to be gifted, spirited
Smile bright as the sunrays
A figure to match the
Figure
Eight
Concentrated on getting further
While surrounded by a society that murders
Rapes
Steals and kills
For the same goal
Laughed at me because my necessity to hold
On to the innocence in a world so consumed with aging that I’m considered naïve
Time envelops, develops and at time passes me
No moment, second or hour possible of being revisited
But that’s why I cherish it
Wear it on my wrist
Base my beats and my rhythms to it’s tempo
Relax in a sea of silence that echoes tick tick tick as I let go
Forget about the womanman who called me out my name today
Forget about the 15 year old’s life snatch away
Because he slept with that boy’s girl today
And he had to pay
Forget about the police killed on a routine stop
The dealers on the block
Bringing every life closer to its demise with the exchange of every rock
For the dub or dime to improve their baby’s lives
Genocide
Some call it
But in the hood this is life
And our reality
Mom struggles to work two jobs but still comes home to disconnected lights
A father disenchanted by the obstacles that enclose him below the
glass ceilings ever present in life
Yes I am a ball of light
Dimmed by the lid of Pandora’s box
Under the pain dismay
Of life’s day to day
But for those who dig undiscouraged and refusing to turn away
Remember there is always sunshine after rain
And relief for those who experience this pain
