Redeem (v) – to recover by payment or other satisfaction; to make up for; make amends for; offset.
So much of life wasted
Catering to the ungrateful
Hearts poured into
One-sided relationships
Loving those who never
Really loved you back
How do we start
Redeeming the time?
Slough off the leeches
Cut loose the hangers-on
Scratch some folks off your list
Forgive, forget and move on
And focus on those to whom
You are as important
As they are to you
Redeeming the time…
So many years spent
In unfulfilling jobs
Counting down the hours
Doing what we needed
Instead of what we wanted
Hopes and dreams delayed
Can we now begin
Redeeming the time?
Figure out what it is
That you love to do
Find a way to make it
Work for you
Plot out a course
And start down the path
Why not you? Why not now?
Redeeming the time…
Sacrificing our very substance
Doing everything for everybody
Being all things to all people
Placing self on the bottom rung
As the lowest priority
Beaten up and worn down
We need to now focus on
Redeeming the time…
Love God, love others
But also love yourself
Recognize that it’s okay
To say “no” sometimes
It’s not a bad word
Take time for yourself
To renew and restore
Redeeming the time…
