This poem is based on Norman Rockwell’s New York Central Diner.

I am deciding what to get

I always get fried eggs

And sausage,

but today is a new year,

And I am trying something new 

It has been 365 days since

The last time I looked in this menu,

And 24 hours exactly from when Charles

Greeted me at this very table.

I stare, glaring into the menu with 

no idea where to start.

I ask Charles to surprise me,

But he declines.

I start to get nervous I won’t

choose correctly,

So Charles assures me I can 

always switch.

Charles knows me better than

Anyone else,

So I choose…
