A poem by Colleen Grady.

I saw these two kids walking to school
they asked me my name, but I kept my cool.
“What’s in a name?” as Shakespeare once said
it’s not very useful when you are dead.

My boyfriend once told me I had the perfect kiss
it made smart fools fall for ignorant bliss.
Then all at once, his face turned three shades of red
when realized he was kissing the dead.

I overheard my friends talking one time
they bragged about things that just didn’t rhyme.
Being materialistic is something I dread
cuz you can’t take things with you when you are dead.

My doctor once told me I had a heart of ice
I simply told him that he was too nice.
Because having warm blood that flows bright red
isn’t very useful when you are dead.

I liked it, the flo9w worked for me, even the repetition, which was, of course, the point.
