Remember Me to the Soldier

Remember me to our soldier,

Who fights on the battle field.

Who all of his life of service,

To his nation he doth yield.

Remember me to the soldier,

Who fights on the enemy lines.

Who fights to defend our freedoms,

While freely we drink life’s sweet wines!

But remember me to God’s soldier.

Who falls on his knees there to pray.

Who may die in the heat of the battle,

E’er the night shall give way to the day!

Remember me to God’s soldier,

Who fights in a distant land.

Unthinking, we eat freedom’s honey,

While he pays such a high price to stand!

Oh, some have gone on who were willing,

The prospect of death though they face.

We too should be ready for battle,

Stepping up, claim the fallen one’s place!

What saith our departing Commander,

Ere he left on the cloudy sea?

Till I come, wilt thou hold this observance?

This do in remembrance of Me!
