This is one of several poems written in an abstract style about very specific moments that I have encountered which were charged with sensory stimuli. the spacing serves as a visual element, which is very important to me as a visual artist. The spacing also serves as a literal depiction of how one would read the piece: the longer the space, the longer the pause.

the whirring sound
is the texture of the pavement
to my mind’s ear–

infinite,                   incessant,

                calming.

its sound is simultaneously
smooth as silk

and rough;                      the memory of sandpaper.

there is a pattern of imperfections detected–
an undetermined distance of measured feet between each.

they exist only as an infinite, incessant, calm.
