This is how I’m remembering and honoring my Papa in my mind this Father’s Day. He and my mother are now both retired and are living in the beautiful island of Panglao, Bohol.

If there’s one thing
I couldn’t forget about you, Pa,
it would be your thoughtfulness.
You may not be quite vocal
about your affection, but it would always manifest
in the way you care for us all.
I would always cherish in my mind
your beloved face wearing a worried look
whenever one of us was not home by six.
And when somebody’s ill or in pain,
anxiety would often line your face
and you’d give us all the remedies you could think of.
Now that we’re all adults and live in different cities,
you still show how thoughtful you are
by sending us text messages thru your cell phone.

On this special day for fathers,
we may be apart, but my mind will be devoted to you
as I relive how kind and thoughtful you are as a father.
