A young black going down memory lane.

Africa our birthplace,

On ships they took us,

In chains they bound us,

Like seeds to grow, they spread us,

Defenceless and naive, they shred,

Cries of pain, tears of sorrow,

Yet they did not pity us,

They split our bond,

Dispersed us from our motherland,

Left to roam, a disillusioned band,

Our ability to work, our only hope,

On fields and plantations the sun reflected the blackness,

Water from the eyes of mothers and babies justified the meanness,

They civilised us, they schooled us,

Ideas from the Separator,

Foundations for the Liberator,

Yes, I can recall,

The pain, the strife,

No, we did not fall,

Yes, we answered the call,

‘Unity amongst all’
