After resisting unhealthy food all summer I finally cracked.

 Image via Wikipedia

I have managed to resist all temptation

As the summer months passed slowly by,

To succumb to those calorie laden foods

And I didn’t really have to try.

I’ve avoided eating too much fat

And of chocolate and biscuits I’ve had barely a crumb.

Even ice cream, chips and favourite desserts

I’ve only been tempted to eat some.

But as a family birthday arrived

And a celebration I just had to make,

I’m ashamed to say that after all these weeks

I gave way to a huge slice of cake.

You would have thought that would be the end,

And that one piece would be quite enough,

But no I kept being attracted

And resistance was really tough.

After two more bits I felt sick and ashamed

So if you are trying to lose weight,

For heaven’s sake put the cake out of sight

And don’t leave it on view on a plate.

How true, we all pass through the same cycle of resistance in futility.

  • CHAN LEE PENG on Aug 4, 2010

The cake was temptated but one had to control appetite in order not to gain extra weight. liked it. :-)

Great yogis said that the first sense to control is the tongue, the power of taste, and it is the hardest! Thanks Christine.

Christine, you tell it, as it is, we all have weaknesses, your poetry is not one of them.

Cake is really tempting, I admit. :)

  • Ruby Hawk on Aug 4, 2010

Christine, it happens to all of us. When you have been good for so long you are bound to give in to temptation once in awhile. It will be okay. just don’t do it too often.

  • Brewed Coffee on Aug 5, 2010

How could you resist that one? I think I’d go nuts if I don’t have a slice of that cake hehehe. Seriously though, we need to treat ourselves once in a while.

well Christine i’m happy that once in a while u get to indulge
i do that sometimes, when i hate myself for controlling my appetite
but in my mind i’ve been craving for all those sweets and calorie-rich foods
i ask myself sometimes, what if the world ends tomorrow? will i deprive myself of these little pleasures before i die ?
my problem is when i think the world will always end tomorrow haha :)

Truthfully, the only difference between you and Resistance Was Futile experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to Resistance Was Futile.

  • J M Lennox on Aug 8, 2010

I know it’s easy to make excuses but how can you resist ”birthday cake”! And, it wouldn’t really be polite to not partake of the celebration. As you can see, I’m not a very tough encourager for weight loss. Yum, the cake looks great! You need to reward yourself every now & then, and not feel guilty about it.

Ha ha ha! You tell me.. I visited the Philippines in June almost ruining my vacation because I was determined to lose weight. I ate nothing but the native fruits and vegetables. But it did work!
