A poem about my parents.
For I will consider my parents
Who worked hard to quickly get me nowhere
Who slaved for years doing the hardest of work for not even the vaguest hint of a thank you
Who suffered at the hands of ethnic cleansing and religious discrimination to tell about it
Who gave their lives to defend me at the risk of losing their own
Who despite all their arguing, remain together to this day claiming nothing had ever gone wrong in their marriage
Who claimed to love even when the gravest of mistakes and grievances were committed
Who swore that they were my only true best friends despite what I thought
Who claimed that love was not only fuzzy and warm but also involved a little fear
Who told me that I was princess and swore I was the prettiest in the world
Who tried to convince me that cute little boys were dragons in disguise
Who call me their proudest accomplishment and ultimate embarrassment
Who more frequently say I’m disappointed in you than I love you
Who would rather say you can do better than good job
Who want me to desire to please them, but I guess I’m selfish.
