A poem I did for an assignment at school about an aboriginal who fought in the wars between the British and Aboriginals at Australia during the 1800’s.

Rhythem of War Drums

The fear, tears and dried out cries

The loss, the love it’s just not right

Remember the great ones who never turned down a fight

Memories, stories keep these hero’s in the light

Maybe all this was not right

White, Black they are just races

Pemulwuy was just keeping the pace

He didn’t want glory

He didn’t want fame

He wanted this land to be his again

Pemulwuy was just not one person

He stood for the whole nation

He stood for what was right

He stepped into the light

The battle was fearsome

The battle dragged out for days

The battle came to an end

They went home with scars

They went home with stories that will travel far

Maybe the battle was not won

But the battle had to be done

Pemulwuy was just one hero

There are many more

The battle was not one

Pemulwuy’s dream may not have been done

But the ryhthem of war drums

Was never too much fun.

Lawson Gale.
