A poem about seeking greatness of one’s own journey.
Road to Greatness – 8/21/2009 – Susan Varo
I have come here seeking greatness
Unlike a queen or king
Crown jewels your majesty
They don’t mean a thing
And unto I don’t worship
No grandiose affairs
Just little things dear to me
Like having little cares
So I venture on this rugged quest
To greatness and afar
It’s not about just having things
But finding who we are
Since I’ve gone off the beaten path
Nothing is the same
Now that I’ve scored a higher self
Few can play the game
At times there’s no love on this journey
There’s no two way easy street
Many times there’s just only
The strangers that I meet
Sometimes the road to greatness
Has to be one’s own
Many times the road that’s taken
Can leave one all alone
Should I be what everyone wants
At my own expense
Or be on the outs with those who’re in
Or just keep my confidence
It’s hard to be fool hearty
When I want to do my best
But how would I have greatness
If I am like the rest
Should I delegate my feelings
Just to be where I want to be
What about unused emotions
That are left inside of me
So now I have the glory
There is no true greater gift
This is my true life story
To have my spirit soar and lift
So onward on the road to greatness
To be what I can be
And if I reach that place in time
It’s what greatness means to me
