Sometimes we feel like we’re headed down a road to nowhere and everything is falling down around us.

You’ve traveled down this road before

garbage thrown here and there.

Houses crumbling down to the ground,

not a person in sight, nowhere to be found.

Sidewalks cracked in a gazillion pieces

while alley’s pile high with animal feces.

Streetlights slanted, smashed and broken

not a word you whisper or even spoken.

You think, oh no, oh my, oh dear,

your back on the path of the road to nowhere.

A great poem Debra. I know that is happening in so many places and I thank my lucky stars that I live in such a beautiful and well kept town. I love all your work.

I read the title and didn’t see this one coming. This should be in a magazine. I really like it.

Some poems are great readers. Some poems are great reciters. This poem lives in the best of both of those worlds.

Strong write… and a good read too! (Reminded me the Talking Heads song! They headed for the, well… insanity? While your poem is more… desolate?)

  • Melody SJAL on Dec 8, 2008

Nice poem. We all feel like we’ve been down that road many times before. Well done

  • trishia on Dec 16, 2008

This poem does flow very well. I sort of thought about the places that are physically like this with nothing being done to improve them. Society has a hush-hush attitude;not caring. On the other hand, our lives can become so unorganized that we could possibly take on the same blightness.
