I love to just drive and stop along the way observing the human condition.

I took a trip to the edge of Orange County’s San Clemente

Near the million dollar Nixonesque Estates

I watched the surfers kill the southeast breaking waves

From a sidewalk spray painted pomegranate red “Jesus  Saves”

Down below a surfer boy’s girl in the sand plays & for her man she waits

I took a trip to Redneck Island aka as Temecula Inland

Where a colony of wine drinking artist create

I hang around till the Riverside County heat abates

And after indulging in a glass of Beringer Cabernet and steak

I savor a double espresso and make my way on the 91 freeway home late

I took a trip to the top of UCSB’s Goleta

Santa Barbara’s long time running mate

Where again on the shore were droves of ridden waves

And antique hunters and young lovers hold hands on dates

Lining  the streets of downtown and talk over gourmet dinner plates

I travel to all points of drive-able interest

From San Diego’s old town to the northern part of California’s state

From the lonely and live stock lingering aroma of remote Ramona

To the 5 star restaurants and hip citizens near Frisco’s Golden Gate

and back home again as the Sun drowns in the Pacific’s oceans dream scape

I love your choice of words – I particularly like your closing line here ‘as the sun drowns in the Pacific Ocean’s dream scape’ – you conjure up such a strong image in so few words.

Nice poem. I might walk places this spring (certainly, not today as there is about 6 inches of snow outside and the wind is blowing hard).! I choose not to drive because I am too nervous of a person. My grandma got her license, but never drove. I get my anxiety from her.

The visuals I get are remarkable. Very nice and smooth.

Hey, with a little work, it could flow just a bit better. Hoppe you don’t mind my itty bitty critique. hehe

Sounds like a nice road trip. We were up in that area in late September. Unfortunately we were there for a funeral, but we did drive along the coast the day before we boarded a plane back home.
