ROCKS
 

God must have had an awesome time
when He was making rocks,
all those fantastic shapes and colors
and the way rocks somehow talk,
telling us the stories
of creation, earth and sky
and all that’s happened since then…
And good rocks never lie.
There’s much that we can learn from them
and so much good that they provide.

A rock is such a common thing,
so for most, we just pass them by
without a glimpse or casual thought
of all that rock has seen
or how it got to where it is
from where it might have been.
Wind and rain erosion,
earthquakes, great shifting faults,
volcanoes exploding,
years of heat and pressure, the results
are all these rocks and minerals
with their good deeds and tales to tell,
important things we need and need to know
but we don’t listen very well
to the dynamics of this great rock
that we are living on,
then we wonder what happened
when a good rock is gone.

We don’t pay much attention
to a rock most of the time
unless, of course, it’s gold ore,
or diamonds we make sparkle and shine,
or salt to season up our food…
we seldom think about a rock
as something all that good,
that they’re all that important,
most just get passed along the way
but you’d be amazed what you can learn
from a simple hunk of clay.
