Putting yourself back together after heartbreak.
You say I’m rough around the edges, but have never asked why.
There are plenty of reasons I cry.
My sarcasm puts you off you say, yet you keep coming around.
You’re attempting to work at my edges, but beware of what may be found.
I have my reasons for this tough exterior.
I’ve known great pain, but would like to stay sane.
At one point, there was a huge hole in my heart, one I never thought would be filled.
Then he came along.
He worked hard to break down the walls, but after his great feat, he asked, “That’s all?”
So I took all of the broken pieces of me and put them away.
This is what you see today.
Rough around the edges because I haven’t been together since.
If you stay, you’ll see I’m more than just a girl with rough edges.
These edges are my protection.
It took me awhile, but I came to my senses and now I’m defensive.
Accept me, rough edges and all.
