This is about the medical community tendency to treat depression mostly with drugs. Psychotherapy helps, but there is still a huge unfulfilled need for better treatment.

Head spinning round and round
Thoughts are packed, lightly bound.
Things I think I cannot say,
Verbalize: they’d put me away.

Keep to self darkest thoughts,
Through the years I have fought.
Trust no one, as all tell,
Thinking they can make you well.

While they try, there is no cure,
Though with their drugs they try to lure.
It would be better if they taught to cope,
At least then a better life I’d hope.

You are a lucky guy for having gone out of the institution. I suppose those people thought drugs could erase illusions. A periodic psychological check of people running these institutions should be made so that there is always a transparency as to whoever is within range to lose their thinking.Your poem aptly describes your ordeal.

Good poem. You would think that being taught to cope would be the first step, but sadly drugs are cheaper. Best wishes friend.

Its true, psychiatrists would rather offer drugs than get to the heart of the matter. I was treated with drugs for years, since grade 8, after a while I just sort of came to my own understanding and overcame(aka learned how to deal with) the depression myself.
    excellent poem.

To be honest, sometimes my head spins round and round and I really want some Xanax! I have an excellent memory and drugs are the only thing that have helped when I am hit with years worth of memories all at once, its painful.

Clay,I think there is a better way for depression.I think therapists do very little good. I have been on medication but I think the best medication is reading and reading more, not so much about depression but any cheerful happy book.(for goodness sake nothing religious), that stuff drags you down. Refuse to listen to sad music, or watch sad movies. Don’t read sad stories. Don’t let your family or friends dump sadness on you. I think this helps. I know it helps me.
