Addiction at its worst. Taking the life of a man I admired.
I sit here and watch you sleep
Aware of the blanket that covers your feet
Tubes connect your skin to a machine
And I watch it slowly drain you away
The coughing interrupts your dreams again
Forcing you to fear the next time it visits
Falling asleep to be woken in time
To open your eyes to the suns early rise
You wished us not to see you in this state
But it might be the last time
My heart is dry, no emotion is absorbed
As you sleep, I watch you die.
Your drink sits on the table
Condensation rolling down the glass
Rum and coke fills your throat
A sweet taste of lifelong addiction
Alcohol is substituted for your blood
Now having the responsibility to keep you alive
Pumping new blood through your veins
Until your heart has had enough of the poison
The couch is your new refuge
A place to rest your head
The night fall came for a visit
But you didn’t get to welcome it
For your eyes have been closed since sun
