That wonderful first moment of quiet.

Image via Wikipedia

Noisy meaningless chatter has been silenced
and the quiet of solitude slowly fills the void.
I inhale it; savor it; with deep slow breaths,
endowing a Sabbath’s rest to my soul.

Warmth of morning sunlight washes over me
bathing me with the gentle touch of nature,
rinsing me clean of unwelcome mental clutter,
endowing a Sabbath’s rest to my soul.

Muscles sink into relaxation, as the eyes close,
and other senses are heightened in awareness.
Floral scents drift in, like waves upon the shore,
endowing a Sabbath’s rest to my soul.

Very soothing, this. In fact, an audio version could be used for meditation.

Mmm, I love the peace and quiet of your phrasing in this. The sigh at the end of the read is involuntary.

What a beautiful, soothing poem, Katie. Made me feel calm, just reading it.

What a welcome change from the usual description of Sabbath rest as a list of things we don\’t do on the Sabbath. Jesus said that the Sabbath is made for man, not man for the Sabbath.
Very worshipful! We need both private and corporal worship to feed our souls.

As always—beautiful. The term ‘poet’ is banded around a lot on this site. You are one of the few truly deserving of that title.
