Rough I know but then so am I.

Sad but ok…. Always ok….

She lost them after just a few breathes so shallow
But for the others also young she carried the world
A smile often used to hide a mothers sorrow
Time marked as on the wind falling leaves twirled
Sad but ok…. Always ok

Enduring pain of unwanted touches against her skin
By night the trusted hands she married hit and used
By day she used the smile letting the injured win
Slowly getting stronger, less broken to overcome abuse
Sad but ok…. Always ok

Hunger can gnaw at places long buried in time
To little girls left curled on dirty carpets alone to cry
But in the now for children she sacrifices every dime
And in her they will never have to wonder why
Sad but ok…. Always ok

Overcoming yesterday and living for today took years
She found the strength to fight even daily struggles
Bills to pay and health that makes her still fear
Overcoming it all and solving life’s puzzles
Sad but ok…. Always ok

Miles walked and paths she’s run have left her tired
But joy found still in little things make her smile
Long dead ashes of creative spark have been fired
Life lived again and held close a while
Sad but ok… always ok

Many times she reaches for the hand of friendship
Afraid of being odd and wrong about truth
Alone in crowds and in her worship
True is all she tries to be, and never asking for proof
Sad but ok….. Always ok

As a rule of life people ask how she is today
They hear only what they have time to hear
Looking deeper has a price to few care to pay
So her smile’s bright to hide the quiet tear
Sad but ok…. Always ok

A very evocative but meaningful tale, and so beautifully written. To be trapped in such a deterrent situation, and yet, she still finds the joy in little things and perseverance to exist and move on, to fight. Great read.

This poem reminds me of my mother. Her husband, my father, was a wife beater. Need I say more?

A heart breaking but beautifully written poem. Why do some have to go through so much suffering?

Yea I have…. but not often… I’ve been a mom for near on 18 years and they are my reason to be ok.

This made me cry. I could have written this. Whoever this lady is, she and I have walked parallel paths.

There is so much pain in the world and event though each person may suffer in a different situation, pain is pain. I hope you are truly ok because it gives me hope. My circumstances are quite different from yours, but I hope to be able to get to the place where I can say: I am sad but ok! Thanks for this poem. Its beautiful and is connecting with many people’s hearts.
