That is the question…

This, My Fellow Americans, is soon to be former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.  You may know her as John McCain’s running mate in his failed 2008 Presidential Campaign.  You may also know her as the single greatest plunder in the history of American Politics.  Governor Palin, you see, was Sen. McCain’s last ditch effort to save a campaign he was virtually destined to lose.  There are other ways he could have tried… if i were him I would have gone with “Yes, George W. Bush was an a**hole.  But let us republicans fix his mess… Don’t let the liberals in!!”.  McCain chose, instead, to run with a woman who at times bordered on mentally retarded.  (Don’t take my words for it… listen to hers!)

Uh, what?

I know more than  one just from Boston Legal reruns.

Doesn’t leave much room for debate, does it?  The woman is about as politically sharp as a bowling ball.  McCain brought her on board to try and effect a drastic turnabout, to swing women and liberal voters.  Failed experiment, no big deal, life goes on.

Yet somehow, since the election, her name has floated to the top of the shallow pool of possible Republican candidates for 2012; along with South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, she was widely considered a front runner.  In fact, with his recent ‘mishaps’ (see link), she may have actually emerged as  the early frontrunner, as frightening as that may be.

But over the 4th of July weekend, she threw the political world a curve that even left members of her own party perplexed; she stepped down as Governor of Alaska.  She held a press conference at her Alaska home on the third which did little to explain anything… in fact, she confirmed only two points…. she would no longer be Governor, and she might, in fact, be mentally retarded.

Again… what?  Stepping down… why?

Keep in mind, the constituents of her state are, as a whole, not at all disappointed.  Stories of Gov. Palin running their state via blackberry while she campaigned, and the fact that she has been all but absentee, ineffective, and by all appearances unperturbed, since her return have made this all but a blessing to most.

But the question still rings… why?  There has been some speculation that she was stepping down from her post to pursue her presidential ambitions, but to do so at the cost of abandoning her position?  Not likely.  And, as is nearly always the case in politics, the likely truth was soon to follow…

So now we review.  It isn’t a secret any more that Gov. Palin isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.  You wonder, in retrospect, how did this woman become a governor?  And how did she nearly come one step shy of the presidency?  Whatever the reason, a good portion of America has become infatuated with this woman, with the rest of us left, jaws agape, to wonder how and why.

Let’s pull our collective heads out of our backsides and see this woman for what she is… an utter and total political catastrophe, and an idiot.  As Matt Damon so aptly pointed out… this is not a Disney movie.

Nope, indeed.

Very well written article. I’m not into politics, but still the article was good.

Scary how close we came. It’s funny- I’ve been staying with some very conservative grandparandparents over the last week and they essentially worship Fox News, which means all I’ve heard the last few days is what a hero this woman is for stepping down to pursue some vague higher calling, and how she should be nominated for sainthood; quote from granddad: “They just pick on her because they’re afraid to see such a beautiful and intelligent woman running things.”

The Cult of Personality – this infatuation with celebrity, irrespective of substance – has been infiltrating politics for some time in America. Had she enough time to surround herself with handlers who could pull her strings and hide the incompetence, she might have had a genuine shot at the White House. And THAT is terrifying to me.

Great article, very well written. I’m not much for politics and keeping up with them, but great write anyway!

I think her looks really got her far. Apparently, before she was in the running for vice president, she had holy roller hair. I don’t know if that’s true. I’m not Alaskan, and she wasn’t very nationally known until the election.

But yeah. When I asked people who like her why they do, they always say “She’s pretty and she’s a mom, and it’s awesome that a woman can be a pretty mom and be smart.”

Ahem. I think you said it best when you said she isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.

What I found so amusing is that she packaged herself as some sort of conscientious mother, while her daughter was screwing like a rabbit.

This is a well written article and I really like the video clips although the one of her unable to answer a simple question about Supreme Court decisions was painful to watch. Matt Damon was right…it is a scary thought that she was a heartbeat away from having the nuclear codes and the reins of the country. Maybe she can go back to watching her kids to make sure they are being perfect and not engaging in any shameful activities. I wonder what the “other shoe” that she is waiting to drop will end up being.

I’m glad that other Americans realize how dangerous it would be to have a person like this in the Whitehouse. George W Bush is an idiot and look what he did to our nation. It’s astounding that so many people think Sara Palin is great.

  • ActionSammy on Jul 10, 2009

First, I want to say that I think Sarah Palin’s the hottest-looking female politician ever!! Now that I got that out of way, I also want to go on record as saying that she’s also the goofiest politician ever and that she can pretty much kiss whatever aspirations she had for the White House goodbye!

  • ActionSammy on Jul 10, 2009

I was just watching that video clip of Matt Damon tearing into her….Damon rocked!! It was funny!!

  • thestickman on Jul 13, 2009

    very awesomeness!

Palin is a phenomenon. Those who feel she is intellectually and temperamentally qualified to be POTUS, should be labelled ‘idiot’ or ‘traitor’. Its just that simple. Whether these people are part of the ‘Tea Party’ or just plain old ‘Conservatives’ aka greedy war mongers, they need to be stopped. Obama is a blow hard gas bag, but at least he listens to opposing voices and knows not to rattle the sabre every time someone dares to question America’s myth.
