While working at a casino a few years ago, the most vicious street attack occured just outside and I had to hear every sickening sound.

Your screams penentrated the night

curdling my blood just like yours

with every stab of the knife

I tried to erase it all

It was so hard to ignore

I wanted to curl into a ball

Just outside my work’s window

I had a front row seat

to the worst side of humanity

and it was too gruesome for me
