This poem is dedicated to Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain, two men I greatly admired. I have read every book I could get my hands on of these two and I tried to imagine how they felt with this poem. By the way, Alice in Chains is back with a new album and a singer who sounds almost exactly like Layne. This last song is a tribute to him. It’d called Black Turns Into Blue.

Save Me From My Self

Image via Wikipedia

Scratching on the wall,

I hear voices call,

Going down the road,

Pick up another load,

Save me from my self.

God gives another chance,

I pass up circumstance,

It feels so good in pain,

Day after day, again, again,

Save me from my self.

I can’t find my mind,

I think it’s gone blind,

Too much of a strain,

I think I’ve lost my brain.

Candles burning bright,

Searing through my sight,

I want to slice my soul,

You can have all control,

Save me from my self.

Holes dug in my head,

I can’t find my bed,

It does not matter at all,

Just want to fall and fall,

Save me from my self.

I can’t find my mind,

I think it’s gone blind,

Too much of a strain,

I think I’ve lost my brain.

Nice poem Will. He surely did lose his way, and his life.

Being famous and fighting demons such as those must be awful. The soaring highs when on stage, then the lows that come after….
It’s bad enough when u r just a “normal” person. I cannot imagine what they went through.
    Nice work, Will.
