Inspired by the sermon given by my Pastor yesterday. We are very quick to say "Amen" when we believe the sermon speaks of someone else’s shortcomings. But we rarely look at ourselves and apply the Word to our own lives because we are too busy looking at how others measure up. Are we willing to say Amen when it is pointed out that WE are wrong?

Our world is full of hatred

Violence and a blatant disrespect

For anyone or anything

For the law, the basis of civilization

For the sanctity human life

Mindlessly slaughtering

The innocents with no remorse

For the House of God

Some have resorted to

Stealing from churches

And other places of worship

We would have never thought

To do such a thing

Just a few short years ago

Sure that a lightning bolt would

Crack the sky and strike us down

INSTANTLY

How do we take the possessions,

Much less the life of another

We granted neither

Say “Amen” somebody!

Amen to the truth!

We have folk who call themselves

Christians and “the right”

But they have gone so wrong

Breeding bigotry and intolerance

Catering to the rich

Trampling over the poor

The elderly, widows and orphans

But they claim to be holier than the rest

Making sure all children are born

By killing the abortion doctor

Let the children be born, but

Don’t provide them with healthcare

Make it nearly impossible for them to get

An education or earn a decent wage

Love your fellow man only

If he is not of color, or gay, or of a different faith

Say “Amen” somebody!

Let the truth be known!

Christ has warned us

What we do unto the least of His People

We have done unto Him

But we don’t seem to get it

We will largely be judged

On how we treat others

But we are not to judge

We need instead to check ourselves

Take a good look in the mirror

Measure the depths of our own shortcomings

How much do we love our enemy?

Are we willing to help those who don’t agree with us?

Who are not like us? Even those who want to hurt us?

Will we give rather than take?

Give with no thoughts of receiving?

Live the golden rule?

I fear it will never be so

We are much too selfish and self-serving

And the hate runs way too deep

Say “Amen” somebody!

Well written and an enjoyable read. I tell you that hate will never be extinguished, we just have to continue to pray to be able to deal with it in a Christian manner.

    Amen

The Lord is slow to anger and great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of His feet. He rebukes the sea and dries it up; He makes all the rivers run dry …. The mountains quake before him and the hills melt away. The earth trembles at His presence, the world and all who live in it. Who can withstand His indignation? Who can endure his fierce anger? His wrath is poured out like fire; the rocks are shattered before him.

You are so right and it is the so called ‘religious’ people who are the worst. A very well expressed piece.

@Stephen and Christine – So true. And many who call themselves “religious” will awake one day in the pits of hell because of the way they treat others.

Interesting write! I loved the poem but I hate people who always think their way of life, their family, their religious beliefs, their home (I could go on!) is the best and the only way to do things!

Nice to see a concerned person!

We can\’t change others but we can change ourselves and be an example. Of course, Jesus is the way and we want to go the same way.
