Travel Article.
Jhandidhara is the sunrise point from which both Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga can be seen. The snow clad mountains can take the visitors to paradise on sunny day. Fogs and mists create the greatest barriers in the day. Near the Bengali restaurants there is artificial mushroom created and flower garden constructed where visitors can walk and experience nature’s paradise. The greatest attraction of the place includes the canopy walk in the forest. There is an entry fee of Rs Animals and birds are hardly seen, but their jostling can be heard.
Kalimpong is the urbanized travel destination in the region and the visitors should spend more time over there. Situated at an altitude of 4500 ft, the temperatures are within bearable limits. It hardly snows in Kalimpong; therefore winter temperatures hover around 6 to 8C. The Kalimpong Science Centre is new travel destination with entry fee of Rs 20 per person. There are impressive scientific gazettes showing reflection, refraction, resonance, chemical wonders, etc. There is a park adjacent to it showing having static forms of dinosaurs. The landscape is very attractive and romantic as well.
Pine view nursery is probably the greatest travel destination in the place. Different forms of orchids and cactus are preserved and most of them are sold to customers at high rates. Most of the cactus are brought from Northern and Southern America. Some of the tall orchids almost resemble septopuses or octopuses are fiery in nature.
There is an impressive Hanuman Temple, Kali Temple in the region. Hotel Lilium has a very picturesque view of the entire hills of Kalimpong namely Durpin and Deolo. Tagore House is within the vicinity, the place where Rabindranath Tagore lived during his short stay in Kalimpong and Mangputh. Besides, there is a renowned monastery at Durpin Dara in Deolo hill where at one time Dalai Lama had visited. The Bells bring luck for the devotees. Kalimpong is known for different varieties of flowers as the soil and landscape encourage the growth of colorful flowers. There are good football grounds as at one time the renowned club footballer Prem Dorji from Kalimpong had contributed in football matches played in Kolkata.
Kalimpong’s market is also impressive having sweaters, woolen clothes, bags and others dresses used by hilly people. The entire demographics differ from the rural areas of Rishop, Lava and Lolegaon. On the way back to New Jalpaiguri Station, viewers can visit the Bidhan Market in Siliguri and Iskon Temple. The Iskon Temple has sculptures showing Shree Krishna killing Taraka Rakshasi, also Kaalnaag, etc. The bhajans are played around 4.30 to 5 pm and it is worthwhile experience of hearing the hare Rama Hare Krishna bhajans in the place.
If the travelers are briefed about Lava, Lolegaon, Rishop and Kalimpong, they are also supposed to be briefed about the poor roads. The Teesta River flows across Kalimpong and yet due to lack of oversight of the State Government boating destinations and parks are not killed across it. The frequent hoardings of Gorkhaland also create a misconception as the region still lies within the borders of State of West Bengal. There is lot of work required to be done by the media about the scenic beauty of Lava, Lolegaon, Rishop and Kalimpong. Attention is required from the tourist department of West Bengal. If the efforts of tourist departments of Himachal Pradesh are compared it will be inferred that West Bengal hardly cares about the places in spite of having equally brilliant landscapes like that of Kulu, Manali, Shimla, etc. Television channels, All India Radio, newspapers, journals should guide the travelers about the places to bring it within the forefront of travel destination in India.
