Here in New Zealand the school holidays have just begun, that triggered a memory from the past.
The first day of the school holiday arrived,
My brothers and sister were all home,
The weather was not to our liking,
Rain was falling,
But the out doors were calling,
Donning rain coats and gumboots,
We decided to go mushrooming,
My sister being older than us,
Directed operations in her usual way,
Mushrooming became an adventure,
The rain clouds seemed to roll away,
Pails in hand wandering over the paddocks,
With in an hour we had enough,
At home we lit the fire,
The weather outside got worse,
We gathered in front of the fire,
With a toastie iron we made,
The best mushroom toasties ever,
Then my sister told ghost stories,
In the warmth of the family circle,
All is right with the world.
