My favorite quicky armchair vacation.

With winter snow piled up outside,
And winter chores confronting me
I take a break, for my head does ache
And my heart is full of melancholy.

I take a break, and browse seed catalogs;
Page after page of lovely color–
Purple eggplant and rutabaga,
Carrots orange and lettuce of tender green.

Lawn furniture invites an afternoon
Of resting from early morning labor
With a bowl of tasty produce
For teeth and tongue to slowly savor.

Reality is my old desk chair,
A hearty soup of good black beans;
My head aches from stale indoor air
My eyes are tired of winter scenes.

My fingers type and type and type
But I rest hands, and head and heart
Feasting dreams upon tomorrows greens
And flower beds of summer art.

    I love gardens and flowers, but I have always hated gardening. In the house I am living in now, I have a lovely view of my neighbour’s garden (when spring eventually comes to Manitoba!).

    I love the line “Feasting dreams upon tomorrow’s greens”.Your muse is quite active this evening.

    What a delightful poem. I used to love getting seed catalogs and pretend my end results would be as attractive as those pictured.

    Daisy, I am tired of winter too. I wish spring would hurry up.
