A poem about the desire for the relief of death.
“Set Free”
I’m thirsty, but cannot drink
I’m hungry, but cannot eat
Pounding from my temples to my neck
Pounding away from conscientiousness
The haunting of eternity rack my brain
Will I lie gasping in pain forever?
Will I sit up from this prison again?
Hopes scatter, the little pill hasn’t settled
The demon slows its course
I pray for prayer, the pounding enables me
I lie helpless and exhausted
The sudden slice of coolness cups my head
Chilling the pain
My body relaxes
The demons roar defeat as the cold puts out their fire
I can rest now
I’ve been set free
