A poem I wrote for son which has been through many incarnations.

Do shadow children play when the sun goes away?

Do they bounce a shadow ball against a shadow wall?

Do shadow girls and boys play with shadow toys?

Sipping shadow tea in a shadow doll party?

Do they jump a shadow rope down a shadowy slope?

Do they peek up over my head when I’m snug in my bed?

Do they run and play and chase the night away?

Do shadow children play when the sun goes away?`

I like this – the world that our imagination says exists just outside perception – lovely read- Thanks

a highly imaginative poem that poses the question of existance through shadows. i really enjoyed reading it. brilliant poetry.

I like this one. On the one hand, it is the kind of question children ask: Where does your shadow go when the sun doesn’t shine? On the other, it has a sort of existential questioning of the unseen/unknowable. Very, very nice.

Reminds me a bit of the Abney Park song “The Wrong Side”. Simple, but deep.

like this – I think, as often happens, the first line is all important and pulls the rest along: “Do shadow children play when the sun goes away?” – really good
    thanks – revivor
