A dark poem about the end of humanity.

Streams of sunlight reign on high.
The azure sea of endless sky,
is touched and warmed by solar ray.

To and fro the people go.
They do not see, nor do they know,
for nescience is man’s way.

The lovely day, this threat, belies.
Behind bright skies, the darkness lies,
but there it will not stay.

Even now, the terrors come – those shadows of oblivion!
Humanity shall be undone,
as they carry us away!

Blood, and ash, and flood, and fire -
the burning skies draw nature’s ire,
and lightning pierces skies of gray.

The earth that once was friend and home,
assails us with her shrieks and groans,
and holds us in her sway.

Struggling in the choking ash,
trembling hands in darkness grasp,
seeking purchase where they may.

In unrelenting grief and dread,
we’ll soon be numbered with the dead.
We find no strength to pray.

Completely spent, we close our eyes,
betraying hope that truth denies.
We give in to dismay.

Life or death – come what may -
it doesn’t matter anyway.
In time we’ll find a bright, new day.

Darkness in the world cannot dim the light in every soul.

I hate shopping in Asda (Walmart) too! Only joking. A powerful poem, full of warning but with a glimmer of hope at the end.

It’s hard to find poetry that actually says something, has nice structure, and good visuals. I also have a soft spot for dark poetry.
    Nice work.

Just wow. That was amazing. Like a beautiful ballad that was delivered into my very soul by the words that you used to portray with such intensity the helplessness, but yet still the light at the end. Kudos to you my friend, for you have truly mastered the art of painting into my very mind the thoughts that you yourself have put into this poem.
