The above link is the referenced video … Florida Legislation needs to be changed.

I watched in silent wonder

at how this thing could be

a law that kept them separate

love in captivity.

They lost their loving mother

than the comfort that they shared

and I in tearful wonder

thought, why don’t people care?

These precious little angels

so hurt and now devoid

of the only sister that each had

of all the lives destroyed

But the law says that its legal

to tear their world apart

two lives joined by their mother’s love

together from the start.

So say a

prayer for the innocents

those that have no voice

if separation has to come

let it be their choice.

Very touching. I agree with you on the need to let them stay united.

Thank you LEO, maybe we’ll get this changed before they graduate college.

I understand that the law is the law, but as your poem makes clear, sometimes the law can be so unfeeling and cold.

    Good one as usual- thanks

Thank you all for the read. It is exasperating to think that step/half sisters may never see each other again.

    The law,
    Any law is absolutely cold,
As it has to be applied,
    To young and old,
    Howsoever be it cold,
    To accept law as destiny
    One needs to be bold.

    To your poems
    I’m sold,
    But my prosaic ones
    Have been many times retold,
    Say what you will,
    No law
    Can me still.

Plain and simple as they say in england – the law is an ass.

I was informed via email earlier today that the new incumbent Governor is ratifying at least, some of the conditions of this section of the DCF code. Perhaps some good will come of it.

So sad when this happens. That’s why in many cases when parents die if there is another relative willing to take care of the kids they don’t bother to get the courts involved.

Sharifa – Thank you so much for the read, unfortunately; this is a familial dispute gone horribly awry. The oldest daughter has been taken by her father, while the youngest one lives with her grandmother. She is the one trying desperately to allow these two children right to see and communicate with each other.
Again, thank you for reading and I will add you as a friend and read your work. Dan
