..This is just a little poem –a tribute to Rosa Parks that I wrote last year, either at the anniversry of her death or the anniversary of the boycott by the Montgomery, Alabama Improvement Association. Sorry, but I don’t know which.. Anyway, I was cleaning out my "documents " file and saw it in there and thought perhaps some viewers on Triond.com might be interested in checking it out.

04-22-08 “She Stayed In a Bus Seat;.” A tribute to Sister Rosa Parks

She stayed in a bus seat, when it wasn’t cool..

She stayed in a FRONT seat..risked being called a “fool.”

…up FRONT, when it was forbidden…

When the law said Black people.. could not be forgiven.

.

..for being where they weren’t ‘posed to be…

..being up front–not allowed to be “FREE,”…

..to ride where they wanted– BECAUSE they were Black..

BECAUSE of the law .. they ‘posed to be in the back!

Day after day, as time went by, uptown and downtown

..many riders from on high..

..paid their fair share.. to ride.. like all the rest…

why COULDN’T they be free –to sit where they liked best?

Lord– what manner of man IS this— who’s blind to a dream..

…who cannot see the folly, of his racist scheme?

Say Lord! ..what manner of man is THIS– who, in his sick, SICK mind….says, “..you can’t do this or, you can’t do that..– ‘cause I don’t like YO’ kind?”

Yes, Lord … what manner of MAN is this– that defiles ANOTHER man,

..only ‘cause his skin color— doesn’t fit HIS plan?

But.. that man’s plan was WRONG, so UN-fair & SO unjust..

when Rosa’s courage did him in.. that showed us that we must..

..MUST be stout of heart and YES .. MUST be brave in ”peace;”

” ..willing to die on our feet, or.. live on our knees?”

Yes.. Rosa showed us long ago.. what was HER “ministry…”

“Rightious Indignation” .. was indeed HER legacy..

 So,

Yes! ..she stayed on that bus seat! Then folks walked for 400-days!

..but, BECAUSE she stayed on that bus seat, the “man” HAD to change his WAYS! .
