She was a man is an elegy written in honor of a woman who died believing.

She was a man

Her faith was greater than billions of mustard seeds

Her belief, as unshakable as the penetrable rays of the sun

In the pains of death

She remained in her faith

A time when life was no longer catchy

When death was not welcome

When the body was neither alive nor dead

When the mind was a suspended element

Wondering with nowhere to settle

She was undaunted

She was unmoved

Never compromised for a split of second

But rather endured and kept on

Having hope against hope

For a miracle

Death stared her in the face

Yet she clung tenaciously to her faith

Never gave up for a moment

Never confessed negatively

Even when the pain

Was negatively positive

She continued to assure kith and kin

That all would be well

People consoled

But she consoled them back

She ought to be consoled

But she consoled

The love radiating from her eyes

Which the pain tired to suppress in futility

Consoled those who ought to console her

The face would light up with a smile

But it was obvious

That beneath those momentary smiles

Was the suppressed response to terrible pains

When hopes were brightest

For reasons known only to Supreme Being

She fell and lost the battle on earth

To gain the crown in heaven

She was a man

Until her last breath

She held tenaciously to a cause she believed in

Her soul rests in peace

It was incredible

The realization of the situation

Was devastating to the mind

The loss of someone dear

But life must continue

The lamentation of sorrow

Must not be allowed to

Proceed into the subconscious

Situations must be adjusted to suit

In the proceeding days

When the loss was terribly felt

The golden words became authenticated

“I will be mother to the motherless”

I will send you a comforter”

And so life continues.
