Free verse poetry. written to be preformed live. SLAM style.

I use to count cracks in the sidewalk
I fallowed them like lil yellow brick roads
To the wizards and Oz’s of my imagination

I use to watch other kids avoid the cracks
Pretended they were bombs
Or lava
This always seemed too easy to me
Since there was more sidewalk space than cracks

But i never payed them no mind
These were my cracks
On my streets i knew them all
Each had a memory or day dream attached to it like a collar

I paced up n down these sidewalks days on end
And end on days
I walked out all my life questions
I walked out my inhibitions

I broke down my hang ups like i fallowed sidewalk cracks
I zig zagged and cross stepped through every nook and cranny
Up n down parking lots, downtowns, and back alleys

Touched ol brick building who held more stories than a library
And more sin aswell

In these times of reflection
I look fondly on the days i walked these cracks
Contrasting then to the streets i drive now
 I miss the simplicity

It seems walking always got me to where i was goin slower
But got me to myself in record time
Worthy of Olympic gold
Phelps couldnt beat it
It was fast as a hurricane droppin me from my Kansas
To my wizards and Oz’s and bears, O MY!

These days
I drive to much
I should start walkin more

Maybe i could find more yellow brick roads in
The sidewalk cracks
Heavens know i need em bout now
