This is a poem, which I wrote in a lighter vein.
It is about the times we live in.
Things are not what they used to be…you’ll see.
Hope you enjoy it and have a good belly laugh. Cheers.
After all,
The world we live in
Is besides the point.
Hook up,
Smoke a joint.
In this altered state
Of consciousness,
We can witness beauty
Or even flirt
With a passing cutie.
Unfortunately,
The world as it is–
Well, it is rather ugly.
For example,
Passing vehicles give me
A pain in the neck.
There’s a hole in the ozone layer
And my brain(?)
Feels like it is getting fried
Like an egg on a sauce pan.
Somebody,
Please switch on the exhaust fan.
Man,
There used to be a time
When a guy had few worries.
Now,
Jobs are marching out of line
Left and right,
Right and left,
The social contract is dead.
Enough said.
Going to school used to be
Like a Christmas party.
Now, there’s a smoking gun
Lurking in the gym or hall
Heck, even in the classroom
You can take a fall.
Be careful, you all.
I’m not kidding,
This ain’t no joke,
Your home-room teacher
Can be loaded on Coke.
The gym teacher looks
Like he’s way out of shape
The chemistry lab
Is wrapped up in red tape.
That CEO you aspired to be
Swam with the sharks
And hunted with the hounds
Stole your pounds and left town.
Your girlfriend, as it turned out,
Had been around the block
A few times and more
Save for you,
Every guy in town scored.
Whatever happend to the good old days?
Now, it’s not just our politicians who lie
About this and that
These days, it seems,
Everybody wears multiple hats.
Everybody wants to be a doctor
To earn brownie points
And move up the social ladder
I consider myself lucky
Just to be able to, well,
Relieve my bladder.
In the meantime,
Your clients rip you off,
And your wife finds a new lover,
Oh, brother.
The banks are tanking
And your pension is gone
You’re getting old
And this is our swan song.
